Hey mouthy, I enjoyed reading your responses on the Women in the White House discussion! You made some great points I don't think people were taking into consideration re: the framing of Hillary in the media and popular consciousness.
I've been seeing your handle around a bit too, at Shakesville and some of the other blogs I frequent - same you?
Thank you for saying hi. It's so nice to be greeted when I enter a community. I'm with you on the awkward factor; the boyfriend and I have a son, and his boss is a decent guy (and super-friendly in terms of leave) so right now it makes more economic sense for me to be home most of the time. I'm not sure I want a sitter and they're prohibitively expensive besides. But being dependent is really aggravating.
I've been teaching myself how to cook better and more frugally and sew with cheap-ass Walmart specials material, sometimes a buck per yard, which makes me feel nauseatingly like I should be wearing an apron and pearls, but it saves money and kids grow so fast that learning how to do good alteration doesn't hurt. And it fills the daytime in a productive way before class. How are you doing, other than the stress of financial stuff? (Or more about that, if you like.)
Hello, Mouthy! Welcome to the community. I actually read your response to the Women in the (White) House discussion before I realized that you were new. Thank you for your refreshingly honest and new take.
I also struggle with my lack of financial independence, but we're in a weird spot on that front. My husband just got his undergraduate degree, but has not yet found a grad school. We're trying to live very frugally - more so than when we were both in school - and it is stressing us both out. If I think of ways to soothe the strain, I'll let you know.
I look forward to talking with you more!
