Hi Melissa! Good luck on balancing being a step-mother and getting your Ph.D... Wow! It seems like you've overcome a lot of struggles in your life to get where you are today, and that's awesome. I'm looking forward to your perspective in discussions here!
Welcome, Melissa! Wow, a PhD; I'm still working on my bachelor's in education! Congrats, and good luck!
It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, but we are definitely here for support. Feel free to jump right in to the discussions and/or blog. Just let Erin and I know if you need anything!
Hello, Melissa! Welcome to the community. I'm glad that you will be able to finish your PhD. My husband just finished his Bachelor's - it's been a long road - and is overjoyed.
I agree that it is difficult to find the women that you speak of, which was my main impetus for starting this site.
I am so sorry to hear of your lost baby. I wish I could say I understand, but I really do not. I wish you much better fortune in the future.
It seems that several of us here deal with mental disorders. My father is bipolar, so I can understand how difficult it can be to control. Feel free to share how you are feeling here!
Enjoy your new puppy - they are so much fun!
I look forward to talking with you more!

About Me:
I am currently not working, staying at home while I get school work done for my Ph.D. in English. My husband is an English professor, and this is the first opportunity that I have had in 7 years to not teach. I have a 7 year old stepson who visits and stays with us as much as possible. I have a English bulldog puppy and two snuggly cats. We live in a college town, Mt. Pleasant, MI. The hardest thing for me to find is like-minded women who are smart/intellectual, but also family oriented (but not religious zealots either). We have been dealing with fertility issues, having lost a baby to SIDS a number of years ago, and I have been bipolar and on medication for it since 1998. These are chronic issues that can turn off potential friendships. However, I am the most stable that I have ever been and am so happy that I can take time off and be a feminist housewife!
Do you consider yourself a Feminist?
Yes
Are you...
a housewife, a woman who shoulders all domestic responsibility for your family
