Wish we could invent an alternative word to "housewife".Last thing I ever was or wanted to be was "married"/ committed to my house....commitment to my partner/spouse and family is fine.
Also can't see my husband (now that we're both more or less retired) describing himself as househusband (in fact the cook/handyman) to my housewife (cleaner, organiser, decor designer etc.) when we are introduced to someone!!
